When someone mentions braces you might immediately assume that the topic is going to be about a child being fitted for them, but did you know that a brace later in life can have quite a lot of benefits?
As we get older our teeth naturally shift and move, this can then lead to crooked or crowded looking teeth. Using our Invisalign braces we are able to straighten out those pesky misaligned molars to give you a nice straight smile.
If that has caught your attention, then here’s a little background information about why your dentist in Glasgow might suggest you try out Invisalign braces.
What are Invisalign braces?
They are essentially a see-through brace that will be fitted by your dentist in Glasgow to help realign any crooked teeth you may have. They manage this by exerting a small amount of gentle pressure constantly on teeth that you want straightened, with the idea that this will slowly rotate them into better positions.
Throughout the realignment process you may have to wear additional braces, but this is to ensure that a continued amount of force is being applied where it’s needed and at the right point of your treatment. Speaking of the procedure itself, normally it takes around 12 to 13 months to finish a realignment, but it can vary depending on the patient. Also your dentist will usually advise you after the fitting on how long you will need to wear them.
How will my dentist fit them?
The fitting process for your new brace is relatively non-invasive and pretty simple. Normally you will go through a consultation first followed by a scanning session where we use lasers and LEDs to map out the topography of your teeth. This data is then used by us to create a 3D image of your teeth that we can alter to show you how we will perform your realignment.
This information is then sent off to a lab that will create a custom fitted mouthguard that can only be worn by you. Then all that’s left to do is to wear the brace continually for 22 hours a day for as long as instructed to by your dentist.
At Tiwari Watson Dental Care we have talented team members like Raashi Tiwari, an accredited Invisalign Go provider, taking you through the process step by step to help you get that lovely straight smile at the end of your treatment.
How to look after the brace
After you leave the practice with your new brace it will be up to you to keep it clean. We generally recommend our patients give their mouthguards a light scrubbing with a recommended brace cleaning solution and a toothbrush. Do this at least once every other day and that should be enough to remove any built up bacteria and help reduce staining of the brace.
These are just a few interesting facts about our Invisalign brace process. If you would like to be fitted for one, or are curious about how we can help straighten out your smile, then book an appointment at our practice today.
